Licensing.
How MnemosyneC is licensed.
Free under SSPL for everyone. Apache for library extractions. Patent peace via Pledge #2260. Trademarks held by Upekrithen LLC.
The four layers
| Layer | License | Who it serves | What it requires |
|---|---|---|---|
| Substrate node + installer | SSPL v1 | Everyone: personal, cooperative, research, non-profit | SaaS providers must open-source full service stack under SSPL per Section 13, OR obtain commercial license |
| Library extractions (Apache path) | Apache 2.0 | For-profit AI companies forking selected reference implementations | Attribution; no copyleft on the fork; Pledge #2260 patent peace conditional on not suing cooperative members |
| Patent floor | Cooperative Defensive Patent Pledge #2260 | All users (Tier A automatic; Tier B conditional on valid commercial license) | Do not initiate patent litigation against any cooperative member |
| Trademarks | Upekrithen LLC TUP | All parties | MnemosyneC, Dr. Mnemosynec, Liana Banyan, Cephas are non-licensable without written permission to licensing@lianabanyan.com |
We use the Android licensing model.
The Android ecosystem is the closest commercial analogy. Open core with controlled surface layers. This is how it maps.
SSPL = AOSP-equivalent + cooperative substrate: SSPL v1 node and
installer, free for everyone who does not wrap it as a SaaS product.
Apache = library extraction fork path: Selected reference
implementations published under Apache 2.0 for for-profit AI integrations;
no SaaS clause on those extractions.
Pledge #2260 = patent cross-license floor: Defensive
cross-license to 2,700+ Upekrithen LLC patent claims; revoked if you
sue a cooperative member.
TUP = trademark control: MnemosyneC, Dr. Mnemosynec,
Liana Banyan, Cephas. Non-licensable for forks. Use a different name.
The full structural analysis is recorded in the BP087 Android-of-AI canon eblet. The four-layer mapping (SSPL node / cooperative substrate / Pledge #2260 / TUP trademarks) is Founder-ratified and Code-Breaker-eligible. SEG-AA minted the dedicated canon slug. SEG-BB minted the 30-day offer canon. Both are disk-backed under BISHOP_DROPZONE/STATE/EBLETS/CANON/.

Read full canon →What Section 13 means in practice.
If you wrap MnemosyneC as a service offered to anyone outside your own organization, SSPL Section 13 requires you to release your entire service-stack source code under SSPL.
We do not interpret this as a trap. It is a forcing function. The three structural options for for-profit AI vendors are:
(A) Do not integrate. If you do not use MnemosyneC in your
SaaS product, Section 13 does not apply to you.
(B) Open-source your entire AI stack under SSPL. If your
product's competitive moat is not in the code layer, this path may be viable.
(C) License commercially. Obtain a commercial license from
Upekrithen LLC. Section 13 is the forcing function that converts the
cooperative-vs-extractive choice into an explicit commercial conversation.
Internal R&D, integration work, and personal use are not affected by Section 13.
Commercial licensing.
If Section 13 applies to your product and you prefer a commercial license, contact Upekrithen LLC. Founding Licensee terms apply during the program window.

Patent peace, conditional.
Upekrithen LLC and Liana Banyan Corporation hold 2,700+ patent claims across 19+ USPTO provisional filings. Under Pledge #2260, every user receives a defensive cross-license to those claims automatically.
Tier A (automatic): All cooperative members, individuals, research institutions, and non-profits receive patent peace automatically with no commercial license required.
Tier B (conditional): For-profit commercial licensees receive patent peace conditional on holding a valid commercial license from Upekrithen LLC.
The cross-license is revoked immediately and irrevocably the moment you initiate patent litigation against any cooperative member. We compete fair. We do not strike first.
Trademarks belong to Upekrithen LLC.
MnemosyneC, Dr. Mnemosynec, Liana Banyan, and Cephas are non-licensable trademarks held by Upekrithen LLC. You may not use these names to identify or market your fork, derivative work, or competitive product.
Written permission is required for any use. Contact: licensing@lianabanyan.com. Plain attribution to the underlying project is fine; trademark use is not.
Use a different name. We compete on the substrate, not the trademark.
Frequently asked questions.
Yes, if you do not offer it as a service to your customers. Internal R&D and integration work are not affected. SSPL Section 13 kicks in only when you wrap it as a service offered outside your organization.
SSPL v1 Section 13 defines "offering the functionality of the Program as a service" as the trigger for the copyleft obligation. Using the software internally, integrating it into internal tooling, or running it for your own organization's benefit does not trigger Section 13.

SSPL protects the cooperative substrate. Apache 2.0 is for selected library extractions that for-profit AI companies should be able to fork and ship without triggering the SaaS clause.
The SSPL node and installer carry the full copyleft obligation (Section 13). Selected reference implementations and library extractions are published separately under Apache 2.0; those do not carry the SaaS clause. The list of Apache-licensed extractions is maintained in the Upekrithen LLC extraction registry and linked from this page as it grows.

Your patent peace under Pledge #2260 is revoked immediately and irrevocably. We can then assert any of the 2,700+ Upekrithen LLC patent claims against you.
Pledge #2260 grants a defensive cross-license to all Upekrithen LLC patent claims. The grant is conditional: it is revoked upon initiation of patent litigation against any cooperative member (not just the cooperative entity). Revocation is automatic on filing; no cure period. The cooperative does not strike first, but it does not disarm unilaterally either.
